University of California Application Deadline Extension

Updated: November 29, 2020 at 10:53 pm

The University of California has extended the application deadline to December 4, 2020 at 11:59 pm PST in response to the slowed servers earlier on November 29, 2020.

Currently, University of California (UC) applicants see the message “System Offline” when trying to access their applications online. In conversation with the UC Applicant Help Center, representatives note a server is down as the number of applications being processed was greater than forecasted. The UC technical support people expect that the server will be running again at approximately 6 pm PST.

While parents everywhere may be having a “told you so” moment with their teenagers, who typically work until the last days of their due dates, and teenagers may be panicking, imagining their life’s work being thwarted in the final hours, I’d recommend taking a deep breath to regain perspective.

In my 17 years of experience, the UC servers have crashed once. The UC admissions officers extended the deadline for all applicants immediately. So, if past is prologue, should the server issues extend beyond the next hour, there are likely contingencies in place.
