WARNING: Common Application Rollover Imminent for Fall 2023 College Admissions Cycle

Each year, on August 1, the Common Application updates their database with any changes to college specific questions and supplemental essays, as well as the Common Application itself.

However, since students can create a first year applicant account before August 1 to begin completing the application, beware the following information will not be saved or “rolled over” when the Fall 2023 Common Application is released on August 1, 2022:

  • FERPA Waivers, necessary to request letters of recommendations from teachers, counselors and other recommenders
  • Invitations to recommenders
  • Answers to college specific questions

However, any colleges added to the “My Colleges” tab will be saved.

Information remaining the same after the August 1 rollover:

  • Account usernames and passwords
  • Any information entered in the Common App tab for all sections (see below)

The Common Application will temporarily be unavailable for First Year Applicants starting July 28, 2022 at 5 pm ET to update for the Fall 2023 application cycle. And, Transfer Applications will not be available starting July 29, 2022 at 5 pm ET.

Note: On August 1, 2022, not every college’s supplemental essays, campus specific written answers, will be updated. Students can check which campus-specific supplemental essays are updated on appsupport.commonapp.org in the “Live Colleges” tab.

However, some college administrators list updated supplemental essay prompts on their college’s  admissions website

Lastly, for students who will start their Fall 2023 Common Application before the roll-over, be sure to double check all sections already completed for accuracy, after August 1.
