The annual Fall 2022 PSAT is scheduled for either Wednesday, October 12, 2022, or Saturday, October 15, 2022. Taking the PSAT is an opportunity for all high school students to practice for SAT’s or ACT’s (should they seek to take tests for their college applications given widespread test-optional policies), as well as a qualifying exam for Juniors to compete for National Merit Scholar status.
Once a student receives the PSAT scores, along with the detailed score report indicating which answers are correct and incorrect, students have a guide for devising any SAT or ACT preparation strategy. Since the PSAT scores will not be evaluated for college admissions, there is no consequence to taking the PSAT.
However, given the continued use of test-optional policies, students and their families should consult trusted, experienced advisors about how adding an SAT or ACT score to an application can be useful, as part of an overall college admissions strategy.
