In Spring, Seniors can experience “Senioritis”, needing more effort to complete everyday homework, while coping with anxiety of waiting for college responses. In some cases, such a lack of motivation can lead to strategic missteps, from which the consequences can be destructive, especially for college admissions.
All college acceptances are conditional or provisional. Often, one condition is that students pass all their senior year classes with C’s or better, and for some colleges, like UC Berkeley—B’s or better. So, if students note (or anticipate) a drop in academic performance, begin problem-solving as a family and with teachers as soon as possible in the spring semester.
Also, the conditions of an acceptance includes behaving in ways consistent with what college admissions administrators consider the college’s culture and values. Admissions officers may have grounds to rescind an admissions offer in response to social media posts and other publicly available internet postings, even old posts, that are contrary to the college’s culture and values.
